Installation

For automatic installation:

The simplest way to install is to click on \’Plugins\’ then \’Add\’ and type \’Modula\’ in the search field.

For manual installation 1:

Login to your website and go to the Plugins section of your admin panel.
Click the Add New button.
Under Install Plugins, click the Upload link.
Select the plugin zip file (modula.x.x.x.zip) from your computer then click the Install Now button.
You should see a message stating that the plugin was installed successfully.
Click the Activate Plugin link.

For manual installation 2:

You should have access to the server where WordPress is installed. If you don\’t, see your system administrator.
Copy the plugin zip file (modula.x.x.x.zip) up to your server and unzip it somewhere on the file system.
Copy the \”modula-lite\” folder into the /wp-content/plugins directory of your WordPress installation.
Login to your website and go to the Plugins section of your admin panel.
Look for \”Modula\” and click Activate.

The layout doesn’t look correct

Check the console of the browser and look if you see any error like: “Uncaught TypeError: undefined is not a function”
This errors means that the browser doesn’t know the Modula JavaScript plugin, most of the time the problem is caused by a wrong jQuery inclusion by the theme or another plugin.

Why does some image look blurry ?

If you get blurry and pixellated images then you need to raise the “Minimum image width” parameter inside the “General” section.

As a freelancer, I purchased this plugin for a client who wanted to create her own image galleries. Modula worked well for the task, but the abundance of options was a bit overwhelming for my client. It’s best to set up the gallery yourself or create a template gallery that can be duplicated and edited, making it easier for clients to manage. The installation process wasn’t straightforward and took some time to figure out. I had to uninstall and reinstall the plugin to get it fully functional. However, the overall experience was positive, and when I reached out to support, they were friendly and helpful. In summary, Modula is a great tool, but the extensive options might be initially frustrating for you or your client. It would be helpful if they offered different views—beginner, intermediate, and advanced—so that clients aren’t overwhelmed when they first click the “edit gallery” button. A beginner view could include basic settings like thumbnail size, gallery type, thumbnail gap, pagination type, and color. Just my thoughts. Overall I would say that it could be more user friendly especially with the install, set up, and explanation of what an upgrade includes. I upgraded, then it did not work, then I had to uninstall and reinstall the plugin to get everything working. I looked at the site and it did not clearly state that I would get the slider gallery with the upgrade, so after upgrading I was confused, spent time researching, finally uninstalled and reinstalled and the new upgraded features started working. In the end, the friendly and helpful tech support was such a relief—they truly made the experience a pleasant one. However, I’m not sure about their response times or if they tend to reply only during the night (for my timezone). It would be helpful if they could provide more information on this.

I like this gallery plugin a lot, because even the free version is capable of generating beautiful galleries that I like the look of: I like the look of the masonry gallery; It’s easy to add a bunch of images to start a new gallery, then drag and drop to order them; I set the gutter to the default 10 pixels; I set the image size to “medium,” which I set in media manager to be 400 x 400 pixels. My tips on laying out an attractive gallery: I like “automatic” column type (fill each row edge to edge with images) and then I set row height to 250 pixels. I set the aspect ratio of each image to match what I think is best for the content. Then I order the images to achieve a pleasing look. That is, avoid a row that’s got just a couple of wide images, because that row will be really tall. Set some portrait-oriented images to fall at the end of the row to keep the row to a moderate height. The settings include whether or not to display the image title and the image caption. Keep in mind that the TITLE is displayed in the gallery page hover or not, while the CAPTION is displayed only on hover. You set the title and caption for each image in the gallery. I used my theme’s “additional CSS” to style the titles and captions: bold, centered text and add a semi-transparent background behind the text. In each gallery’s settings you can set the font color and size for titles and captions.
